About the Role
The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring efficient operation and maintenance of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems within an assigned facility. This role often serves as the sole engineering presence on site and may include supervising maintenance personnel depending on the size and complexity of the property. Daily duties encompass overseeing system performance, conducting preventive maintenance, and responding to emergencies such as fire, evacuation, or equipment failure. The engineer coordinates maintenance activities with external contractors, manages inventory, and develops building‑specific procedures to maximize system reliability and lifespan. • Perform daily operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems • Supervise and assign tasks to maintenance staff when required • Execute preventive maintenance such as filter changes, motor lubrication, and equipment inspections • Create and maintain building‑specific maintenance procedures • Coordinate work with external contractors and technicians • Manage inventory and stock of maintenance supplies • Respond promptly to emergencies and customer concerns • Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and company safety policies • Prepare and submit monthly building operation reports • Adhere to C&W uniform dress code and maintain a professional appearance

What You Bring
The position requires a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for completion of an apprenticeship or trade program, and at least five years of relevant experience operating commercial MEP systems. Appropriate trade licenses, a universal EPA refrigerant certification, a valid driver’s license, and basic computer proficiency are essential. Work is performed in a professional office setting but also involves travel between properties and hands‑on tasks that demand lifting up to 50 lb, climbing, stooping, and the use of rigging equipment. Clear communication, the ability to read technical drawings, and adherence to safety and dress code policies are expected. • Complete required C&W safety training annually • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills • Exhibit organization, technical proficiency, decision‑making, and problem‑solving abilities • Hold appropriate trade licenses (e.g., journeyman, master electrician) as needed • Maintain a valid universal EPA Section 608 refrigerant certification • Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record • Utilize basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel, and Word • Experience with HVAC, boilers, pumps, refrigerant systems, and water systems • Knowledge of energy management systems and overall building operations • Ability to lift at least 50 lb, climb, stoop, and use rigging devices safely • Frequent crouching, reaching, and movement across departments and properties • Clear verbal communication and effective reading of schematics and manuals
