About the Role

The role provides supervisory and engineering/technical support to a substation electrical engineering and design team, delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality engineering services. The incumbent supervises engineers, designers, CAD technicians, and administrative staff, handling both billable client projects and administrative leadership support. Responsibilities include leading projects, performing Responsible Charge Engineering duties, managing schedules, and meeting business revenue and profitability goals. Personnel duties cover training, performance appraisal, recruiting, succession planning, and adherence to conduct standards. The position involves complex work requiring major decisions where established procedures are lacking. It influences high-level decisions and requires tact and diplomacy to maintain goodwill. The incumbent manages a team of substation engineering and design professionals, providing direct supervision. • Provide supervisory and technical leadership to the engineering and design team, motivating and supporting staff. • Lead project management on client assignments and act as Responsible Charge Engineer, sealing designs. • Achieve cost and utilization targets through effective planning, scheduling, and monitoring. • Deliver engineering designs that comply with professional codes and standards, offering technical direction on complex projects. • Manage customer relationships and enhance the company’s reputation. • Ensure compliance with corporate safety policies. • Perform administrative duties in line with company policy. • Support recruiting, business development, and strategic planning efforts. • Develop and maintain engineering standards, work practices, and stay current with industry codes and best practices. • Conduct training, performance appraisals, and succession planning for team members.

What You Bring

A bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited) and at least seven years of substation engineering experience are required. Candidates must hold a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and an active NCEES record. Experience includes designing utility transmission and distribution substations of 69 kV or higher, and knowledge of NESC, IEEE, grounding, lightning, and protection studies. The role demands strong analytical, mathematical, and reasoning abilities, including interpretation of technical documents, statistical analysis, and problem-solving. Effective communication skills are needed for writing reports, business correspondence, and responding to customer or regulatory inquiries. Candidates must be self-motivated, able to work independently and in teams, and capable of managing multiple tasks while providing leadership. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands; occasional climbing, stooping, and reaching; and the ability to lift up to 10 lb. Vision requirements cover close, distance, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment. The work environment may involve wet or humid conditions, occasional fumes, outdoor weather exposure, and a risk of electrical shock, with moderate noise levels.
