About the Role
Our clients operate across highways, rail, aviation, defence, nuclear, residential, energy generation, renewables and transmission. You will support the full project lifecycle—from early business case development and securing consents to design and construction—ensuring projects meet environmental and sustainability goals. You will lead smaller projects independently while collaborating with Senior Project Managers on larger programmes, giving you exposure, development and room to grow. The role also offers opportunities to line‑manage and mentor junior colleagues and to help shape the Environmental Project Management Team’s strategy. • Develop project proposals, defining scope, resources, programme and cost estimates. • Create and maintain project management documentation such as plans, cost forecasts, risk registers, schedules, stakeholder registers and organisational charts. • Monitor and control project schedules, staff hours, budgets and expenditure, ensuring progress against targets. • Ensure health and safety requirements for site visits are secured and internal approvals obtained. • Manage contracts and contract administration, adhering to NEC3/4 or similar professional services contracts. • Actively manage project change and risks, maintaining governance and delivering compliant, optimised outcomes. • Lead, mentor and develop multidisciplinary environmental project teams and suppliers. • Promote delivery of environmental improvement, future‑ready and net‑zero strategies. • Serve as the primary liaison for Environment and Consents, building strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.

What You Bring
We are looking for candidates with proven experience as an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager, preferably in the environment or sustainability sector, a genuine interest in land‑based sustainable development and a positive, can‑do attitude. Strong communication skills, programme‑management knowledge (WBS, critical path, MS Project/Primavera), commercial and contractual awareness, and financial acumen are essential. Membership of a relevant professional institution and progress towards chartership are highly desirable. • Demonstrated experience as an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager, preferably in environmental or sustainability projects. • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to keep teams and stakeholders aligned. • Proficiency in programme management tools and techniques, including work breakdown structures, critical path analysis and MS Project or Primavera P6. • Commercial and contractual awareness with proven financial acumen and experience delivering projects within budget. • Experience with professional services contracts (NEC3/4) is advantageous. • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., PMI, APM, MIEnvSc, MIEMA, MRICS) and progress towards chartership.
