About the Role
The planner will prepare Environmental Quality Act documents, environmental impact reports, and negative or mitigated negative declarations, while supporting specific and master plans for infill and land‑development projects. Collaboration with project managers and team members across infrastructure sectors such as transportation, transit, land planning, and aviation is a key part of the role. • Prepare Environmental Quality Act (EQA) documents, environmental impact reports, and negative/mitigated negative declarations. • Assist in developing Specific Plans, Master Plans, and other planning policy documents for infill and land‑development projects. • Support various project managers and collaborate with team members on multidisciplinary projects. • Gain expertise in sustainability, climate‑action planning, ENVISION, LEED, and Salmon‑Safe initiatives. • Conduct environmental clearance associated with local comprehensive plans and land‑use planning. • Work on infrastructure projects across transportation, transit, land planning, and aviation sectors.

What You Bring
Kimley‑Horn's Los Angeles, California office is seeking an Environmental Planner with at least two years of experience. This is an on‑site position, not remote. Applicants should hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Environmental Planning or a related field, have two or more years of experience conducting environmental studies for public and private clients, and preferably possess AICP certification. Strong writing, verbal, GIS/ArcView, and interpersonal skills, along with a positive attitude and self‑initiative, are essential. • Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Planning or a related field. • Possess 2+ years of experience conducting environmental studies for local agencies and private entities. • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred. • Understand agencies and processes involved in the EQA and state Land Planning Law. • Experience with NEPA compliance is a plus. • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. • Proficient in GIS/ArcView. • Exhibit a positive attitude, strong work ethic, urgency, and self‑initiative to meet client deadlines. • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
