About the Role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the Mechanical Team within the Buildings Group, steering technical direction across projects ranging from low‑rise to high‑rise buildings, including data centres, laboratories, industrial facilities, education, and infrastructure. The role involves supporting project engineers, ensuring delivery aligns with quality, schedule, and budget, representing the firm to clients, and fostering a positive culture while balancing project work, business development, and team performance. • Develop designs using sketches, models, diagrams, and update site plans, layouts, profiles, and cross‑sections. • Prepare design deliverables, including drawings, reports, presentations, and regulatory submissions. • Specify and engineer mechanical systems or products with technical accuracy. • Support senior staff in defining scope, estimating costs, budgeting, staffing, and scheduling. • Assist from conceptual to final design stages and attend client meetings to clarify requirements. • Participate in permitting processes and engage with stakeholders and agencies. • Prepare proposal components, change orders, and project communications. • Coordinate technical work across disciplines and act as liaison between teams. • Conduct feasibility studies, evaluate options, assess energy performance, and compile data. • Review legislation to ensure regulatory compliance and advise on necessary actions. • Monitor construction specifications, inspect sites, track progress, and verify calculations. • Serve as engineer of record for own and junior staff’s work.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate has consulting experience in building services, a solid understanding of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant standards, and a mechanical engineering degree with at least six years of professional experience. They should excel at building client relationships, multitasking between project and team responsibilities, communicate effectively, and be working towards chartered professional status. • Professional memberships • Experience in a consulting environment within building services • Knowledge of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant Australian/New Zealand standards • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with minimum six years of relevant experience • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships for repeat business • Capacity to multitask between project involvement and section performance • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Working towards Chartered Professional Engineer status or Producer Statement Author (favorable)
