About the Role

The manager will mentor and coach the accounting staff, provide onboarding, and act as the subject‑matter expert for complex accounting and billing issues. By promoting collaboration across offices, they will help maintain firm‑wide standards and best practices. Responsibilities include overseeing the entire project accounting lifecycle, reviewing monthly client billings of various types, and ensuring invoices comply with contracts and budgets. The manager also monitors project financial health—fee utilization, labor tracking, and budget performance—while addressing variances and performing quality reviews of financial reports. The role partners with Project Managers to support project setup, billing schedules, and contract requirements, offering guidance on Deltek Vantagepoint and acting as a liaison between accounting and project teams. Additionally, the manager leads efforts to document, refine, and improve accounting procedures and supports system enhancements. • Lead and mentor the project accounting team, providing onboarding and ongoing coaching. • Ensure consistent application of firm accounting standards across all offices. • Oversee the full project accounting lifecycle from setup through closeout. • Review monthly client billings (AIA, percentage, lump sum, time & materials, reimbursables) for contract compliance. • Validate consultant invoices against budget and policy requirements. • Monitor project financial health, including fee utilization, labor tracking, and budget performance. • Assist Project Managers in resolving budget variances and billing issues. • Perform quality reviews of project financial reports and billing documentation. • Support month‑end close activities related to project accounting. • Guide Project Managers on Deltek Vantagepoint usage and accounting processes. • Document, refine, and improve accounting procedures and workflows. • Support system enhancements related to project accounting and billing.

What You Bring

PBK is looking for an experienced Project Accounting Manager to lead, train, and support the project accounting team while overseeing the financial health and budget performance of architectural projects. The role ensures accurate and consistent project accounting and billing practices and works closely with Project Managers and senior leadership to facilitate successful project delivery. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and possess at least seven years of project accounting experience within an architectural or engineering firm. Advanced proficiency with Deltek Vantagepoint, strong knowledge of architectural billing and WIP accounting, and excellent communication skills are required; experience with multi‑office firms and team development is a plus. • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. • Minimum 7 years of project accounting experience in an architectural or engineering firm. • Advanced proficiency with Deltek Vantagepoint. • Strong knowledge of architectural billing, WIP accounting, and budget management. • Excellent communication and organizational skills. • Experience supporting multi‑office or national A/E firms (preferred). • Experience developing and training accounting teams (preferred).
