About the Role
The day‑to‑day responsibilities focus on maintaining safety documentation, ensuring timely reporting, and supporting regulatory submissions. The role also drives regular safety inspections and audits, and helps develop and update safety procedures. Additionally, the specialist coordinates training and engages employees through toolbox talks and safety committee activities, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. • Maintain accurate compliance records for OHS, WCB, NPRI, and environmental reporting. • Manage and update accident/injury reporting systems with timely data submission. • Support annual regulatory submissions and maintain hazardous waste manifests. • Participate in facility audits, track corrective actions, and ensure timely closure. • Conduct weekly safety Gemba audits and daily compliance checks to identify hazards. • Execute monthly safety inspections, maintain audit records, and track follow‑up actions. • Perform workplace inspections, document findings, and drive corrective action accountability. • Assist in developing, reviewing, and maintaining safety procedures (JSAs, SOPs, LOTO, etc.). • Coordinate and deliver safety training programs: Forklift Certification, HAZWOPER/HAZCOM, First Aid/CPR, OHS Compliance, Emergency Preparedness, LOTO, New Employee Safety Orientation. • Support ongoing learning via Hubbell University and other approved platforms. • Create, distribute, and track weekly Safety Toolbox Talks. • Provide operational support during monthly safety committee meetings. • Support corporate initiatives such as SSIP, Kaizen events, and continuous improvement activities. • Assist leaders with incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and incident reporting. • Document all incidents, near misses, and injuries in the incident management system. • Support injury case management, workers’ compensation reporting, and modified‑duty coordination.

What You Bring
The Safety Compliance Specialist is a key contributor to fostering a safe, compliant, and high‑performing manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Production Supervisor and Production Manager, the role ensures consistent adherence to local, provincial and federal regulations, including Alberta OHS and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. The ideal candidate is proactive, excels in regulatory compliance, training coordination, data accuracy and continuous improvement, and helps strengthen the organization’s safety culture through hands‑on engagement and cross‑functional collaboration. Candidates must hold at least a high school diploma or GED, with post‑secondary training in occupational health and safety preferred, and have a minimum of two years of safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting. A strong working knowledge of Alberta OHS legislation, environmental compliance and industry best practices is required. Success in this position requires excellent verbal and written communication, the ability to work independently while managing priorities, and strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Attention to detail, proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn systems such as SAP are essential, as is a basic competency in mathematical calculations and data analysis. • Hold a High School Diploma or GED; post‑secondary training in occupational health & safety preferred. • Minimum two years of safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or operational environment. • Working knowledge of Alberta OH&S legislation, environmental compliance, and industry best practices. • Strong verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences. • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and collaborate across functional teams. • Analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving abilities and rapid response in dynamic situations. • High attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation and data reporting. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and ability to learn SAP. • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and analyze safety metrics and trends. • Flexibility to adjust work hours for training, audits, or compliance deadlines; standard onsite hours Monday‑Thursday 7:00‑15:30, remote Fridays 7:00‑15:30. • Preferred: post‑secondary diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or related field. • Preferred certifications: CRSP, CHSC, NCSO (or progress toward). • Experience supporting continuous improvement programs (Lean, 5S, Kaizen). • Prior experience coordinating safety programs in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
