About the Role

The role supports the project team in aligning scope, budget, and schedule while ensuring construction readiness and excellent financial performance. Responsibilities include managing budgets and scope expectations, creating and tracking project schedules, assisting with regulatory approvals, identifying and escalating technical design concerns, providing constructability and logistics recommendations, integrating BIM/VDC modeling, developing proposals, preparing bid packages, analyzing LEED requirements, processing documents, and fostering outstanding customer relations. • Align project scope, budget, and schedule while ensuring construction readiness and strong financial performance. • Develop and manage budgets, scope expectations, and budget‑trending logs. • Create and maintain project schedules, enforce milestone accountability. • Assist with regulatory approvals and permitting processes. • Identify and resolve technical design and specification issues. • Provide recommendations for programming, conceptual design, constructability, and logistics. • Integrate BIM/VDC modeling technology during the design phase. • Contribute to project proposals, bid packages, and contract manuals. • Track and analyze LEED requirements. • Manage document and electronic interface processing. • Foster exceptional customer relations and gather design feedback.

What You Bring

Mortenson is seeking experienced Design Phase Engineers I and II to translate owner expectations into design drawings, specifications, schedules, and financial cost documentation. Strong communication skills are essential for coordinating with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment, and candidates must demonstrate flexibility, ingenuity, dedication, efficiency, integrity, and confidentiality. The position offers two levels based on experience, with compensation determined by experience and location. Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or a related field, and possess strong teamwork, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills. They should be detail‑oriented, understand basic construction law and business practices, have intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, Project, and web applications, and exhibit a positive professional attitude with strong customer service. The ability to interpret Mortenson policies, adapt to diverse input, work effectively with diverse backgrounds, and travel up to 100% is required. Design Phase Engineer I requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience with a base pay range of $84,100‑$113,500, while Engineer II requires four years with a range of $93,400‑$126,100, adjusted for location. Both levels are eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan and receive comprehensive benefits including medical, vision, dental, 401(k) match, paid time off, employer‑paid life and disability insurance, mental health tools, tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance, and gym discounts.
