About the Role
The Environmental Scientist role is based in California and supports U.S. EPA Region 9 projects as well as Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives. The position blends field and office work, including hazardous waste site investigations, remediation, and development of EHS programs, while providing regulatory guidance and client service. • Conduct facility inspections, field investigations, and compliance assessments. • Collect and manage environmental samples (soil, water, air, waste) and operate/calibrate multi‑media monitoring equipment. • Support hazardous waste site investigations and remediation activities. • Document field activities, prepare daily logs, analyze data, and contribute to technical reports and project deliverables. • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, procedures, and documentation. • Provide regulatory guidance, technical support, and onsite safety services. • Investigate incidents and recommend corrective and preventive actions. • Participate in on‑call emergency response rotations, being available 24 hrs a day for one week at a time. • Coordinate project tasks, plan field activities, manage logistics, and collaborate with project teams. • Communicate professionally with clients, regulators, and internal teams; support business development through client engagement and proposal contributions. • Travel as needed, including to remote locations on short notice, and work safely in physically demanding conditions.

What You Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in science/engineering or equivalent experience. • 1–5 years of experience in environmental sampling, field investigations, remediation, hazardous site operations, or EHS compliance. • Strong capability in soil, water, and air sampling, environmental monitoring, and use of field instrumentation. • Familiarity with environmental remediation, hazardous waste operations, and site investigation methods. • Working knowledge of environmental assessments (e.g., Phase I ESAs). • Strong knowledge of environmental issues and permitting EHS regulations. • Familiarity with health & safety programs, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and emergency response. • Experience with OSHA, EPA, and ISO standards; ability to work safely with advanced PPE. • Progress toward ASP, CHMM, CBCA, or EIT certification preferred. • Strong data analysis, problem‑solving, and technical writing skills. • Excellent communication, teamwork, and client‑service skills. • Ability to lift 50 lbs, travel, and work in varied field conditions. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant environmental tools.
