About the Role

The Highways and Roads Transportation Engineering Intern role supports HDR’s mission by contributing to transportation projects that improve communities worldwide. The intern will work on roadway design, documentation, field data collection, and cost estimating while applying standard engineering practices. • Assist with roadway design using MicroStation and OpenRoads. • Contribute to roadway plan production and design documentation. • Conduct field visits for traffic, accident analyses, and data collection. • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures to tasks. • Revise CAD drawings from engineer mark‑ups, plot drawings, and assemble drawing sets for submittals. • Prepare cost estimates.

What You Bring

Candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program, possess attention to detail, problem‑solving and communication skills, and have basic Microsoft Office proficiency. An attitude aligned with the employee‑owned culture is essential. Preferred candidates have completed at least two years toward a civil engineering degree with a 3.0+ GPA, are familiar with AutoCAD, have a strong interest in transportation engineering, and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills; local candidates are given preference. • Completed at least two years toward a Civil Engineering degree with a 3.0+ GPA. • Familiarity with AutoCAD. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Attention to detail and strong problem‑solving abilities. • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency.
