Job Highlights
About the Role
The Behind the Wheel Instructor (BTWI) ensures new drivers are ready for the road by delivering safety‑focused training and critical performance feedback. The BTWI builds rapport, serves as a mentor, and strives to develop drivers who are safe, efficient, and enthusiastic about serving customers. During job shadowing, the BTWI acclimates new hires to the physical and environmental demands of the role and teaches core industry knowledge, including Republic’s principles, safety priorities, and customer service excellence. After virtual safety training, the instructor coaches drivers on on‑property driving, stretching and injury‑prevention techniques, vehicle inspection, and on‑route operations, modeling the Republic Way and providing daily feedback to management. The BTWI also completes required documentation, performs driver duties when not training, and handles other assigned tasks.

What You Bring
Candidates must be highly proficient with the equipment they are certified to operate and be recommended by supervisors and operations managers. They must be willing to participate in written and verbal evaluations of new hires. Minimum qualifications include two years of experience with Republic Services, no crashes or injuries in the past two years, and no disciplinary actions in the preceding 12 months.
