About the Role

Invercargill’s water networks require active maintenance, and as a Water Serviceperson you will be out in the field maintaining assets, responding to faults and restoring services for homes, businesses and emergency services. The role is practical, boots‑on‑the‑ground work performed in all conditions and often under time pressure. You will own each job from start to finish, handling fault response, customer interaction, reinstatement and reporting while adhering to contract requirements and Downer procedures. You will also join a standby and call‑out roster, supporting incidents and civil emergencies when needed. If you take pride in solid workmanship, look out for your crew and view safety as non‑negotiable, your skills will truly matter in this position. • Maintain and repair water network assets in the field. • Respond to faults and restore services for residential, commercial and emergency clients. • Diagnose faults, interact with customers, perform reinstatement, and complete field reporting. • Participate in standby and call‑out roster to support incidents and civil emergencies. • Follow contract requirements, Downer procedures, and strict safety standards.

What You Bring

We are looking for candidates with experience on water reticulation networks, strong fault‑finding abilities and a calm approach under pressure. Confidence in dealing with the public, competence in field reporting via mobile devices, and an uncompromising focus on safety are essential. A full Class 1 driver’s licence is required, with Class 2, RTW, confined‑space or traffic‑management credentials considered a bonus. • Experience working on water reticulation networks. • Strong fault‑finding skills and ability to stay calm under pressure. • Confident communication with the public during service disruptions. • Proficiency with mobile devices for field reporting. • Full Class 1 driver’s licence (Class 2, RTW, confined‑space or traffic‑management certifications desirable). • Reliable, practical attitude; able to start early, work in cold conditions and handle dirty tasks.
