About the Role
The Cleaner will maintain the cleanliness, hygiene and safety of the school’s buildings and surrounding grounds. This includes cleaning classrooms, corridors, offices, communal areas, and leisure‑centre facilities such as changing rooms and reception. Routine tasks cover hoovering, mopping, dusting, sanitising surfaces, operating floor scrubbers and carpet cleaners, and restocking supplies. Additional duties involve waste and recycling disposal, reporting hazards, following cleaning schedules, complying with health‑and‑safety and COSHH regulations, and carrying out deep‑cleaning during holidays. The role also requires secure key handling, support for infection‑control measures, setting up rooms for events, responding to urgent spills, and wearing appropriate PPE. • Clean school classrooms, corridors, offices, and communal areas to a high standard. • Maintain leisure centre facilities, including changing rooms, showers, and reception areas. • Perform routine cleaning tasks such as hoovering, mopping, dusting and sanitising surfaces. • Operate cleaning machinery safely (floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners) and replenish supplies. • Dispose of waste and recycling per site procedures and environmental standards. • Report maintenance issues, hazards or damage promptly to the supervisor. • Follow cleaning schedules and comply with health and safety regulations, including COSHH. • Conduct deep‑cleaning tasks during school holidays or scheduled closures. • Handle keys and access to restricted areas securely. • Support infection‑control measures in high‑traffic or sensitive areas. • Set up rooms for school events or meetings when required. • Respond quickly to urgent cleaning requests or spillages. • Wear appropriate PPE and maintain a professional appearance. • Communicate effectively with staff, students and visitors. • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism within the school environment. • Attend training sessions and toolbox talks as required.
