About the Role

Reporting to the Mechanical Trades Supervisor, the successful candidate will perform routine mechanical maintenance and repair work on equipment throughout the thermal generating station. The position is part of a flexible‑term labour pool that may require temporary assignments to other locations and provincial travel. Core duties include collaborating effectively with team members in a planned work environment, participating in regulatory and on‑the‑job training, and adhering to Occupational Health and Safety rules, the Nova Scotia Power Safety Program, and the Environmental Management System. The role is safety‑sensitive and requires compliance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy, including a confidential pre‑employment test. • Perform routine mechanical maintenance and repairs on thermal generating station equipment. • Travel across Nova Scotia to support other sites and work on a flexible labour‑pool schedule. • Participate in regulatory, on‑the‑job, and skill‑development training programs. • Follow Occupational Health & Safety rules, the company safety program, and the Environmental Management System.

Nova Scotia Power’s Power Production department is hiring multiple Maintenance Person Certified‑Millwright (Shift) – Labour Pool positions across various sites in the Cape Breton region of Nova Scotia. The role offers a wage of $48.41 per hour under the NSPI/IBEW collective agreement, with a labour‑pool, on‑site employment model. Applications close on February 20, 2026. Applicants must hold a Journeyperson or Red Seal Millwright certification and have at least three years of modern mechanical maintenance experience in a generating station or similar process industry. Desired competencies include strong problem‑resolution ability, teamwork, interpersonal skills, computer aptitude, and the physical capacity to work at considerable heights. A valid driver’s licence is required, and overhead crane certification is an asset. The position demands the ability to lift 40‑50 lb, carry 40 lb with one or two hands, push or pull up to 100 lb, and perform frequent static neck flexion and rotation. Workers must be capable of bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, standing, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, and occasional crawling, as well as working at heights and in confined spaces. • Comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy, including a pre‑employment test. • Hold Journeyperson or Red Seal Millwright certification with ≥3 years of modern mechanical maintenance experience. • Demonstrate strong problem‑resolution, teamwork, interpersonal, and computer skills. • Possess a valid driver’s licence and be available for after‑hour emergency service restoration. • Ability to lift 40‑50 lb, push/pull up to 100 lb, work at heights, in confined spaces, and perform various physical tasks.
