About the Role
The manager will deliver technical electrical support, review design and contractual documents for compliance, and coordinate plans with engineers to resolve discrepancies. They will guide project teams and trade partners on troubleshooting performance issues and communicate updates to customers. Coaching, mentoring, and fostering a teamwork environment are also key responsibilities. • Provide technical electrical support and onsite assistance to electrical teams. • Review design documents for contract compliance and resolve conflicts. • Review contractual design, commissioning, testing, and turnover requirements. • Coordinate plans and specifications with engineers, clarifying discrepancies. • Conduct operational analysis and give technical guidance for troubleshooting performance issues. • Communicate updates and guidance to customers regarding project performance. • Advise project teams on contractual scope of issues. • Simplify complex technical issues for non‑technical audiences. • Coach, mentor, and train field personnel, forepersons, and superintendents. • Foster teamwork and ensure crews have technical resources. • Provide work direction and participate in hiring, discipline, and dismissal decisions. • Implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety Program on site. • Assist with technical troubleshooting during commissioning as needed. • Produce reports, including Sequence of Operation instructions. • Build relationships with diverse stakeholders and lead by example. • Drive resolution of complex energy storage performance issues with trade partners and customers.

What You Bring
Mortenson is seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning and Controls Manager for its Energy Storage Group. The role provides project management, design leadership, and customer relationship management for the Energy Solutions team. The manager will support growth by developing and executing early‑stage Energy Storage planning, development services, and technical support throughout testing and commissioning. The position involves a 50/50 split between field (road) work and design responsibilities. Projects are located in Minnesota, Texas, California, and Colorado, with the option to work from a Mortenson office or remotely. Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience and have at least five years of utility‑scale energy storage installation work. They need strong knowledge of low, medium, and high voltage systems, relevant codes and standards, and the ability to manage technical risk and ambiguous problems. Leadership, organizational, and communication skills are essential for success in this role. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Mortenson does not accept unsolicited agency communications without a valid agreement. • Understand PPA and interconnection design, testing, and turnover requirements. • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. • Minimum 5 years experience with utility‑scale energy storage installations. • Proficiency in low, medium, and high voltage systems. • Specialized knowledge in DC systems, low‑voltage AC, controls, and substations. • Valid driver’s license. • Understanding of utility‑scale storage control schemes and networking/communication systems. • Working knowledge of NESC, NEC, IEEE, NEMA, OSHA codes and safety standards. • Experience in electrical construction management and cost control. • Knowledge of PPA, LGIA, commissioning planning and execution. • Strong teamwork orientation and leadership skills. • Ability to solve ambiguous electrical problems and manage multiple project tasks. • Schedule‑driven with strong deliverable focus. • Understanding of technical risk management. • Organizational skills to coordinate teams and engineers. • Basic knowledge of construction law and business practices. • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office, Project, and web applications. • Positive, professional attitude and strong customer service skills. • Effective communication, active listening, and openness to diverse input. • Knowledge of EEO, inclusive behaviors, and affirmative action.
