About the Role
The role will participate in the full project cycle, focusing on complex sectors such as healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, laboratories, and industrial manufacturing, from design through construction close‑out. Our engineers deliver high‑quality, high‑profile national and international projects, providing design services for over 30 million square feet of medical facilities. The position involves coordinating, reviewing, and approving electrical design plans to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. It requires applying high‑level engineering techniques across all project phases, planning future‑ready designs, managing design and construction from inception to completion, and overseeing cross‑functional engineering teams on multiple concurrent projects. The role also includes preparing data visualizations, calculations, technical reports, and presentations to convey complex findings, managing client relationships, providing technical input on pursuit efforts, and exercising responsible, ethical decision‑making in line with WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Coordinate, review, and approve electrical design plans to ensure code compliance. • Apply advanced electrical engineering methods across concept, design, procurement, construction, and operation phases. • Develop future‑ready designs that incorporate safety, functionality, and emerging technologies. • Manage design and construction of electrical systems from inception to close‑out. • Lead cross‑functional engineering teams on multiple projects, overseeing budgets, schedules, and technical documentation. • Produce data visualizations, calculations, and technical reports for complex analyses. • Deliver client presentations and provide technical input for pursuit efforts. • Maintain ethical decision‑making and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.

WSP is initiating a search for an Assistant Vice President, Electrical Engineer for its Jacksonville, FL office to expand the Property & Buildings practice. The ideal candidate is a licensed Electrical Engineer with extensive healthcare design experience in Florida, combined technical leadership and business development skills. Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering, a professional engineering license, and at least ten years of post‑degree electrical engineering experience, primarily in healthcare facility design in Florida. Candidates should possess a strong local network, deep knowledge of electrical design principles, permitting, construction management, and relevant codes and regulations, as well as demonstrated leadership and a solid safety record. Preferred qualifications are a Master’s degree in Engineering, LEED AP certification, prior healthcare or laboratory design experience, a minimum of five years of project management experience, and OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training along with basic First Aid and CPR certification. • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering; professional engineering license required. • Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering experience, primarily in healthcare facility design in Florida. • Strong local network and reputation within the community. • Proficiency in electrical design principles, permitting, and construction management. • In‑depth knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and compliance documentation. • Ability to perform complex calculations and technical assessments. • Demonstrated leadership in coordinating teams and ensuring safety compliance. • Master’s degree in Engineering and LEED AP certification preferred. • Experience with healthcare or laboratory design projects. • At least 5 years of project management experience. • OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training; basic First Aid and CPR certification.
