Contact Energy Limited is a New Zealand
based electricity generator, natural gas wholesaler, and retailer of electricity, natural gas, broadband and LPG.
The company was formed in 1996 when it acquired electricity generation and gas assets from state
owned electricity generator ECNZ.
Contact Energy is listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZX) under the ticker CEN.
For the fiscal year 2024, Contact Energy reported a net profit of NZ$235 million and total revenue of NZ$2.86 billion.
The company operates 11 power stations across New Zealand, using geothermal, hydro, and thermal energy to generate electricity.
Contact Energy's generation portfolio is predominantly renewable, with 80
85% of its electricity produced from hydro and geothermal stations.
The company is currently undertaking a five
year project to replace half of the 60
year
old hydropower turbines at the Roxburgh Power Station.
Contact Energy is developing new renewable energy projects, including the Tauhara geothermal power station and the Te Huka Unit 3 expansion.
The company is also investing in solar and wind projects, such as the Kōwhai Park Solar Farm and the Southland Wind Farm.
