Description

The Controller drives the financial engine of our construction business—owning all accounting and financial operations for the company, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with project‑driven business objectives. This role is central to managing job cost accounting, work‑in‑progress (WIP) reporting, and percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition, while supporting strategic planning and maintaining strong relationships with clients, vendors, and financial partners.

This chosen leader is willing to roll up their sleeves and work side‑by‑side with the team, providing guidance and support while participating in day‑to‑day accounting activities.

• Direct all accounting and finance functions, including month‑end/year‑end close, ledger reconciliation, cash management, and fixed assets.
• Oversee job cost accounting, ensuring accurate coding of labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and overhead.
• Manage Work‑in‑Progress schedules, percentage‑of‑completion calculations, cost‑to‑complete analysis, and revenue recognition.
• Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, check disbursements, online banking, and reconciliations.
• Prepare and issue client invoices, progress billings, AIA formats, and track change orders.
• Ensure timely collections and maintain client communication on billing status.
• Coordinate with project managers to validate billing accuracy and project financial performance.
• Lead the Accounting Department, fostering internal communication and alignment with operations.
• Maintain and enhance internal accounting systems, job cost controls, and financial procedures.
• Oversee insurance reporting, audits, and compliance with construction requirements such as bonding, lien waivers, and certified payroll.
• Partner with external CPA firms for state and federal tax filings.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, job cost reports, WIP analyses, and production‑based reports.
• Collaborate with the CEO on annual operating budget and project forecasts.
• Conduct variance analysis, trend evaluation, and financial modeling to support decision‑making.
• Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance financial visibility across projects.
• Manage banking relationships, including lending, lines of credit, and project‑specific financing.
• Serve as primary contact for clients, vendors, and business partners.

Requirements

This position will require a leadership presence and commute to 5900 Harris Technology Blvd., Charlotte, NC, 28269. Preferred candidate will have seasoned work history within the Charlotte area region.

• Hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
• Possess 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the construction industry.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition.
• Experience with construction accounting software such as Sage 300, Procore Financials, Viewpoint, or Foundation.
• Exhibit proven leadership skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
• Show strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset.
• Maintain excellent communication and organizational abilities.

Benefits

The salary range for this position (depending on experience) is between $150,000 and $175,000 per year. This salary range reflects a progression from a capable mid‑career Controller to a highly seasoned, strategic construction‑finance leader who drives organizational performance and strengthens the company’s financial management.
