He shall ensure adequate ventilation to the work place for making it safe working place for men & machinery. Should monitor mine environment gases during his shift.
Carry a tracing of the workings of such district and shall keep the tracing up-to-date .
Takeover the shift charge from the previous Mining Sirdar, note the details of Operations, Safety, Equipment and manpower details.
Take reasonable means to ensure proper observance of the Act and of the regulations, and orders made thereunder by persons under his charge and report any contravention thereof to his superior official;
Review daily drilling & blasting schedule and take all safety precautions before & after blasting operations in incline drivage’s & shafts in course of sunk.
He shall give prompt attention to the removal of any danger observed or reported to him, and shall see that dangerous places are adequately fenced off.
Ensure that no inexperienced person is employed on any work except under the supervision of an experienced person.
He shall, on receipt of information of an accident/incident in his district, proceed at once to the place of accident, inspect the place and, if required, supervise the rescue operations, and shall immediately report about the incident/accident to the shift incharge and control room.
Ensure all machineries and operators are working in a safe & secured manner.
Take a round in the area/district assigned, Inspect Roof & sides take actions to secure the roof & sides as per the approved SSR for improving the ground stability.
Report to his superior official any deficiency in timber, support materials, appliances and other necessaries required for the safe working of the district;
See that the roof and sides of all travelling roadways and working places in his district are made and kept secure.
Responsible for ensuring roadways safety by securing roof and sides strata as per SSR.
If he observes any dangerous place during the course of his inspections or if any danger at a place where work persons are employed is reported to him, he shall withdraw all persons from such place and shall not leave the place until the danger has been removed in his presence or all approaches to the place have been fenced off so as to prevent persons from inadvertently entering such place.
He should identify risks and ensure that risk Management is done timely to avoid accidents.
Make such inspection and reports as are required by these regulations, and in making such examination, he shall pay particular attention to edges of the goaf, if any, for checking supports and presence of gas;
Send out any person under his charge who disobeys orders, or violate laws.
Monitor and ensure there is no overcrowding of men & machinery.
Maintain Operations, Safety, Equipment and manpower records in the shift as per statute & DGMS guidelines
