The technician performs maintenance and repair on generators from 5‑5000 kW and related parallel systems, including preventative service, troubleshooting AC/DC circuits, and warranty work. Responsibilities also include automatic transfer switch repair, start‑up/commissioning, diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting, load‑bank testing, and assisting on large multi‑technician jobs.
National Power is accepting applications for a Generator Service Technician in State College, PA. Reporting to the Telecom Service Manager, the role involves maintenance and repair of generator sets and related electrical equipment.
A high school diploma is required; an associate degree in an electrical or mechanical field is preferred. Preferred certifications include Generac Power Systems, and experience such as US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or prior generator/UPS field service.
Strong communication skills are needed for verbal and written job reports. The technician must track time and travel, maintain a clean driving record, and possess a valid driver’s license for long‑distance travel and overnight stays. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe PDFs, as well as the ability to manage company equipment and inventories, is required. The role also demands problem‑solving under emergency conditions, customer‑service orientation, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
Work may be performed in various weather conditions and near moving mechanical parts. Physical requirements include lifting up to 75 lb, climbing ladders or scaffolding, working on hands‑and‑knees, and extended periods of sitting or standing. The position is remote, requiring the technician to work from home while traveling to job sites.

Pay is competitive and includes overtime at 1.5 × base, with performance‑based adjustments.
