  • Provide support in price negotiations and obtain quotes for materials and services, as needed;
  • Prepare rough order of magnitude, detailed estimates, and change order estimates for ongoing construction of facility structures and transit operating system elements;
  • Perform related cost estimating and budgeting functions; and
  • Ensure cost estimates are in full compliance with WMATA practices and procedures.
  • Report directly to WMATA Task Manager, or any other manager assigned by WMATA;
  • Review and analyze scope, specifications, drawings, sketches and sample layouts to calculate total cost using labor, material, and equipment, and subcontractor cost using historical data, cost databases, construction experience and project specific judgement;

Mechanical Estimator – Building Services (HVAC, plumbing, elevators, escalators)

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; and
  • Experience in cost estimating various rehabilitation works for a transit authority;
  • AACEi Certification, Certified Estimating Professional (CEP), or equivalent designation;
  • Deep understanding of building, roads and bridge construction methods, earth structures engineering principles, and materials and industry standards. Proven experience in preparing accurate cost estimates for complex projects, particularly in the building construction and infrastructure sectors;
  • Experience in professional services and design services estimating; and
  • Knowledge of working in a government environment, experience with unions/unionized environment.
  • Job site experience with reputable construction company;
  • Familiarity with WMATA’s project management software system (Procore);
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or architecture or equivalent, plus a minimum of 10 years of experience in developing cost estimates, evaluating price proposals, and negotiating contracts within a design or construction organization;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 3 6 5 ® (entire suite), with specific knowledge of spreadsheet software for cost estimating and for historical data collection and resources.
