Description

The Mechanical Engineer – Maintenance of Line (MOL) supports the accuracy, manufacturability and production readiness of IEM’s active medium‑voltage power distribution designs across all facilities. This role maintains the health of active designs, resolves complex mechanical issues, upholds engineering standards and drives continuous improvement. The MOL Engineer collaborates with production, quality, electrical engineering and manufacturing engineering to ensure reliable, repeatable, high‑quality product output.

Key responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical and assembly issues, performing root‑cause analysis and implementing corrective actions, while serving as the technical point of contact for cross‑functional teams. The engineer develops and approves 3D models and 2D drawings, maintains design standards and work instructions, and leads high‑risk investigations and continuous‑improvement initiatives. In addition, the role mentors junior engineers, leads technical discussions as a subject‑matter expert, and manages MOL projects to meet quality, specification and timeline requirements.

• Diagnose mechanical and assembly issues, conduct root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Serve as technical point of contact for production, quality, and electrical engineering teams.
• Provide technical escalation and leadership for high‑impact mechanical or systemic issues (Senior level).
• Develop and approve 3D models and 2D fabrication/coordination drawings.
• Maintain and improve mechanical design standards, material specifications, SOPs and work instructions.
• Review, approve and govern critical standards and procedures (Senior level).
• Identify recurring issues and drive continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Lead high‑risk root‑cause investigations, eliminate systemic deficiencies and institutionalize lessons learned.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Lead cross‑functional technical discussions as SME for complex mechanical systems.
• Manage MOL engineering projects, collaborating with project managers, customers and teams to meet quality, specifications and timelines.
• Lead complex ECNs, major field updates and systemic improvement initiatives (Senior level).

Requirements

Candidates must hold a BSME or equivalent, with 3–7 years of experience for Engineer III and 5+ years for a Senior Mechanical Engineer, plus experience leading MOL or mechanical design projects. Required competencies include advanced knowledge of mechanical systems, tolerances, fasteners and structural components, strong analytical and communication skills, and proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD (FEA preferred). Experience with root‑cause analysis, Lean/C Six Sigma methodologies, medium‑voltage switchgear and UL/CSA/NEMA standards is also valued, and EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure is preferred.

• Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD; FEA experience preferred.
• Experience with root‑cause analysis, Lean, Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Familiarity with medium‑voltage switchgear and UL, CSA, NEMA standards.
• BSME or equivalent required; Engineer III: 3‑7 years experience; Senior Mechanical Engineer: 5+ years experience, technical lead or SME.
• EIT certification or progression toward PE licensure preferred.
