In this role you will work with a team of talented operators overseeing day‑to‑day plant and field operations, preparing equipment for maintenance, troubleshooting, and collaborating with the control room to optimise plant efficiency and maximise output.
Key responsibilities involve executing operating procedures, hazardous energy isolations, start‑up and shut‑down activities, and participating in an operator training program. You will operate plant equipment safely, conduct preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, prepare equipment for service, and coordinate closely with Maintenance to ensure equipment health. Ensuring personnel safety, proper use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to plant policies is also essential.
Joining Suncor means working for one of Canada's leading energy companies, where talented people thrive and lead, and employment opportunities evolve with the business. The work culture blends a dynamic mix of professionals with diverse skills and expertise, and the company seeks highly motivated self‑starters with hands‑on plant equipment experience.
Minimum requirements include relevant hydrocarbon or petrochemical operating experience in oil sands, refining, gas plants, upgrading or pulp and paper; a High School Diploma or GED; a valid driver’s licence with a clean record; and the ability to read process and instrument diagrams. Process safety management knowledge is preferred, while power engineering, paraffinic froth treatment, and digital permitting are considered assets.
The position is based at the Fort Hills Plant in Fort McMurray, Alberta, on a 7‑days on/7‑days off 12‑hour rotation. Employees work on a Fly‑In‑Fly‑Out schedule from approved Edmonton or Calgary hubs, or a Bus‑In‑Bus‑Out arrangement from Fort McMurray. The role requires heavy lifting, use of stairs and ladders, work on elevated sites such as scaffolds and towers, and the ability to operate in indoor, outdoor and confined‑space environments.
Suncor offers a solid foundation for career growth, a strong strategy for sustainability and operational excellence, and a culture focused on inclusion, diversity, and respect. Employees benefit from inclusion networks, Indigenous reconciliation initiatives, accessibility accommodations, and a values‑driven environment that prioritises safety, collaboration, lifelong learning, and integrity.
