- Interprets new or special governmental regulations, engineering codes, standards, criteria and performance data.
- Serves as consultant to global business unit management, project and specialty engineering or scientific groups providing advice and counsel on special and unique assignments.
- Keeps abreast of technological developments in the respective field and keeps management informed on important new advances.
- Participates in and fosters a work environment, supported by leadership, that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
- Provides guidance and direction to specialty scientific or engineering personnel in the development of design criteria and design specifications.
- As assigned, represents Bechtel at professional conferences and on committees.

- Screens and recommends selection of special outside consultants; coordinates their activities and monitors their performance.
- May assist in developing and coordinating special technical educational and training programs for Bechtel personnel.
- Participates directly in new business efforts involving specialized and unique engineering or scientific applications. Interviews client personnel to determine their needs, develops scope for cost estimates for services, and participates in proposal preparation and presentation.

- Advanced knowledge in a specialized field of science or engineering and ability to analyze complex problems and systems.
- A professional license in an appropriate discipline from a recognized licensing board, OR
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Progressive work experience, preferably in staff design engineering, applied science, or specialty engineering but may be in other relevant types of engineering/science including systems start-up, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants or engineering/construction firms.
- Thorough knowledge of industrial and regulatory standards and design criteria in the engineering or scientific discipline.
- Is recognized and respected within the industry and among Bechtel clients for their expertise and knowledge.
- A recognized degree in engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college or university, OR
- Specialized courses in general engineering or an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline, AND
- Extensive experience in aluminium smelters and/or alumina refineries including study/project delivery, and operational and/or maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of scientific or engineering systems, calculations, applications and construction methods and materials, and engineering or scientific application of computers.
- Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.
