Overview
Born in 1995 from the split of NSW’s Electricity Commission, it evolved into Australia’s largest high-voltage grid operator.
Manages over 13,000 km of transmission lines and 104 substations across NSW and the ACT, linking into the National Electricity Market.
Over a decade, rolled out a A$16.5 billion upgrade program, including mega-projects like EnergyConnect and HumeLink to reinforce energy superhighways.
Commercial arm Lumea has added 55+ renewable generators, contributing to the clean energy transition.
Backed by a major consortium including Spark, Utilities Trust of Australia, CDPQ, ADIA, and OMERS following a A$10.3 billion lease deal in 2015.
Key projects include the multi-state HumeLink (underway) and VNI West interconnector, despite community pushback.
Despite challenges, remains pivotal to Australia’s clean-energy transition.
