The successful candidate will lead and grow support for existing and new nuclear projects across the civil and defence sectors. Working with a diverse team, they will oversee safety case development, client liaison, and business development while mentoring junior colleagues.
Key responsibilities include developing strategies to address complex nuclear safety challenges, conducting safety and risk assessments, hazard identification, fault tree and probabilistic analyses, and producing and reviewing safety‑related documentation. The role also involves periodic safety reviews of nuclear facilities, qualification of systems against safety requirements, and supporting both nuclear and non‑nuclear plant safety cases.
Essential requirements are a minimum of ten years’ experience in civil or defence nuclear infrastructure, and a degree, master’s or PhD in a relevant STEM discipline. Candidates must possess deep knowledge of the UK nuclear regulatory regime, safety case processes, and safety justification methods, together with strong organisational, communication and autonomous working skills.
Desirable attributes include experience across multiple site licences, both reactor and non‑reactor plants, technical oversight and independent review, project‑management and commercial exposure, technical consultancy, chartered status, and the ability to obtain DV clearance.
