MBP is looking for a NCDOT Transportation Inspector (Levels 1–4) to support transportation construction projects. Candidates will align to level based on experience, with progressive responsibility from entry-level inspection through lead project inspection and guidance of junior technicians.
Do you have roadway and structure inspection experience, strong documentation skills, and the drive to support NCDOT projects while earning and maintaining industry certifications?
- Construction-related training and/or coursework in road/bridge construction, civil engineering, project management, or materials, or a combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating ability to perform duties
- Basic mathematics including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric computations based on field measurements
- NCDOT Concrete (preferred)
- Materials, methods, and tools utilized in construction, repair, or renovation for monitored and inspected work
- Borrow Pit Sampling (preferred)
- Safely navigate construction sites with uneven terrain
- Maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Level II Erosion and Sediment Control (preferred)
- Use surveying and measurement tools effectively (e.g., survey levels, transits, four-foot levels, lock levels, tapes, measuring wheels, straight edges)
- Construction work experience with understanding of construction means and methods; prior inspection experience in the same or similar type of work as the assigned project
- Travel and drive regularly
- Conventional Density (preferred)
- QMS Roadway (preferred)
- Level III Technician: Minimum five years of relevant experience; able to perform duties without supervision and read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements
- Level II Technician: Minimum four years of relevant experience; able to perform duties without supervision and read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements
- OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
- Experience may be in federal, municipal, transportation, ports, or marina projects
- ABS Sampling (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license and safety shoes required
- Work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Use computers and be proficient with Microsoft Office, email, internet navigation, and web-based tools
- Fingerprint-based criminal history background check, DMV driving record check, reference verification, and work history verification prior to employment
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Level IV Technician: Minimum seven years of relevant experience; may serve as Lead Project Inspector performing general project oversight and communication with the client and the Contractor, including supervision of lower-level technicians and providing guidance as needed
- High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
