The Refueling and Remote Handling Group supports NuScale’s reactor refueling by designing, building, and inspecting fuel and reactor modules. The team creates automated, robotic, and tele‑operated tools that operate safely and reliably across diverse plant environments, aiming to meet outage performance objectives.
- Lead resolution of complex engineering problems using creativity and innovation.
- Provide system‑engineering input for reactor servicing tools, inspection equipment, and control systems.
- Prepare, review, and verify engineering reports, specifications, drawings, and calculations for tooling and inspection systems.
- Collaborate with the Nuclear Steam Supply System component design group to ensure interface compatibility with NuScale tools.
- Work with Systems Engineering and Operations to develop work sequences and handling plans for integrated tool designs.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, criteria, and engineering work plans.
- Support procurement, fabrication, and testing activities for equipment designs.
- Serve as subject‑matter expert internally and externally, applying proven technical approaches and standards.
- Mentor and train engineers on sound problem‑solving methods and engineering standards.

Success in this position requires strong problem‑solving, clear oral and written communication, and effective planning and organization. The role also demands adaptability, dependability, teamwork, a safety‑first mindset, and adherence to nuclear quality‑assurance standards.
Candidates must hold a B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering (advanced degree preferred) and have at least eight years of relevant experience designing mechanical handling equipment. A PE license and experience in a nuclear operating environment are advantageous, and applicants must be eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810. Physical requirements include frequent sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to travel as needed.
- Self‑manage workload, meet deadlines, and perform additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering; advanced degree preferred.
- At least 8 years of full‑time, directly relevant engineering experience.
- Demonstrated ability to implement design processes for mechanical handling equipment.
- Proficiency in preparing and checking mechanical design documentation.
- PE license in relevant discipline is desirable.
- Eligibility to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810.
