Mechanical lead

Description

The Mechanical Lead will act as the technical authority for all mechanical systems across JLL’s managed portfolio. This strategic role balances deep technical expertise with compliance, performance optimization, and sustainability initiatives, including advanced HVAC and innovative cooling solutions.

Key responsibilities include technical leadership, compliance and risk management, sustainability and energy management, team development, innovation, and operational excellence. The role collaborates closely with the Sustainability Lead, drives green mechanical projects, and leads pilot programs for emerging technologies.

• Serve as primary mechanical subject matter expert for portfolio‑wide systems, providing guidance on standards and best practices.
• Oversee mechanical maintenance programs, equipment specifications, and system upgrades.
• Review designs of HVAC equipment, radiant cooling, VRF, heat pumps, pumps, building automation, water treatment, and fire safety components.
• Advise leadership on mechanical compliance with ASHRAE, local codes, and global standards; conduct risk assessments and mitigate single points of failure.
• Ensure indoor air quality, thermal comfort, and energy efficiency compliance.
• Partner with Sustainability Lead to drive green initiatives such as geothermal, heat recovery, and high‑efficiency HVAC technologies.
• Identify energy‑saving opportunities, develop business cases, and track performance against sustainability targets.
• Support LEED, ENERGY STAR, and other certifications from a mechanical perspective.
• Lead implementation of innovative cooling technologies like radiant panels, chilled beams, and thermal energy storage.
• Design and deliver mechanical training programs for technicians, covering safety, troubleshooting, and advanced HVAC systems.
• Research emerging technologies (magnetic bearing chillers, variable speed drives, IoT‑enabled equipment) and evaluate portfolio applicability.
• Pilot new mechanical systems and smart building technologies, establishing KPIs and benchmarking metrics.
• Implement predictive maintenance using vibration analysis, thermal imaging, and IoT sensors to reduce downtime.
• Drive continuous improvement through system standardization, automated fault detection, and data‑driven optimization.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional leaders to align mechanical strategies with overall sustainability and operational goals.

Requirements

Required competencies cover extensive HVAC knowledge, experience with radiant cooling, building automation, water treatment, and commissioning, as well as a proven track record in energy‑efficient solutions and green building certifications. Education demands a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, with preferred certifications such as CEM or ASHRAE, and 12‑15 years of progressive experience in commercial real‑estate or large‑scale facility management.

• Possess deep knowledge of HVAC systems, radiant cooling, building automation, water treatment, and commissioning.
• Demonstrated experience delivering energy‑efficient mechanical solutions and achieving measurable savings.
• Hold a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; certifications such as CEM or ASHRAE are preferred.
• Minimum 12‑15 years of progressive experience in mechanical design, operation, and maintenance in commercial real estate or data centers.
• Experience managing technical teams and developing training programs for mechanical systems personnel.
