  • Frequently be required to use hands and arms to operate locating equipment, tools, and measuring devices
  • Provide accurate documentation and or sketches related to all locates completed
  • Use lap top computer or other devices to receive, document and close out excavation notices, both during normal hours and after hours
  • Operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark under-ground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits
  • Perform light excavation with a shovel, to expose buried utilities when necessary
  • Read and interpret utility maps or prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities
  • Operate company vehicle in a safe manner, and maintain professional appearance
  • Occasionally be required to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Receive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements
  • Employees are expected to follow all company and safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as reflective vests, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and boots
  • Use assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel, regarding underground facilities

  • Clear and professional communication skills, with a focus on accurate and thorough documentation
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to following safety protocols in field environments
  • Be required to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and exposure to dust, noise, and uneven terrain
  • Work may occasionally require travel between job sites using company or personal vehicles
  • Have the ability to walk several miles per day over varied surfaces to complete assigned locating duties
  • Be able to perform manhole entry using assigned equipment and safety devices
  • Have the visual acuity necessary to read maps, plans, and utility markings, and the manual dexterity to operate small tools and instruments
  • High School Diploma, or GED
  • Willingness to undergo random drug testing in compliance with federal, state, and company guidelines
  • Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record (MVR must be acceptable to BKF)
  • Regularly be required to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, crouch, and kneel for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain, during normal and after hours
  • Be able to hear and communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public in a variety of settings, including noisy environments
  • Be required to enter confined spaces and work near active roadways and construction sites
  • Experience with utility location and underground utility systems

  • The typical base salary range for this position is $59,000.00 - $123,000.00 annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is an hourly position paid bi-weekly
