The Carpenter Leadman assists the Foreman in managing the crew and supervises Carpenter workers to ensure work is performed safely, correctly, and on schedule. This role oversees timelines, secures necessary resources, and requires knowledge of advanced layout, anchor bolt placement, material takeoff from drawings, and building safety requirements. The position involves work in plant operations or construction job sites.
In this role the Leadman acts as a working leader, guiding a small group of workers or handling specific tasks assigned by the Foreman while performing hands‑on duties alongside the crew. Responsibilities include inspecting work quality, enforcing policies and safety regulations, reading and interpreting blueprints, building forms, operating tools, and communicating directions to supporting teams. The Leadman also has decision‑making authority to fill in for the Foreman and reports directly to the Foreman.
The position demands significant physical effort, such as lifting up to 50 lb regularly (occasionally up to 100 lb), climbing, and working in varied weather and terrain while operating hand and power tools. Mentally, the Leadman must communicate effectively with management and field workers, comprehend reading and writing tasks, perform mathematical calculations, make decisions, and exhibit strong leadership, attention to detail, and motivational skills.
