The Associate Director/Director – Product Sustainability role sits within the Circularity and Value Chain Transformation team and focuses on helping clients design, evaluate and scale sustainable products. The position integrates environmental performance into product strategy, business models and design for sustainability, influencing decisions that reduce carbon footprints, improve material efficiency and enhance circularity.
In this role you will lead multiple eco‑design projects, advise clients on material selection, product architecture, durability, energy efficiency and end‑of‑life considerations, and translate sustainability goals into product‑level requirements and KPIs. You will provide technical oversight, manage teams, deliver executive‑ready insights and build trusted client relationships while collaborating with internal experts across strategy, climate, circularity and digital services.
- Lead and deliver multiple product sustainability and eco‑design projects on time, within scope, and with measurable impact.
- Advise clients on integrating sustainability into product design, material selection, durability, energy efficiency and end‑of‑life strategies.
- Translate sustainability goals into product‑level requirements and KPIs across design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
- Develop sustainable material strategies, including recycled content, low‑carbon alternatives, and PFAS avoidance.
- Apply EHS regulations (RoHS, REACH, chemical management) to ensure compliant product designs.
- Perform quantitative modeling and scenario analysis for material substitution, energy improvements, and product lifespan extensions.
- Implement digital tools and data frameworks (LCA software, PLM integrations, sustainability platforms) for product sustainability data management.
- Produce executive‑ready reports and presentations that convert technical data into actionable insights for C‑suite and product leaders.
- Build and maintain trusted client relationships, identifying opportunities to expand sustainability programs.
- Collaborate with internal Anthesis experts across strategy, climate, circularity, and digital services to deliver integrated solutions.
- Contribute to thought leadership on sustainable product design and life‑cycle thinking.

Candidates need a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in materials science, chemistry, engineering, product design, environmental science or a related field, with at least eight years of professional experience. This includes five years in product sustainability or life‑cycle assessment and five years in project management, hands‑on material selection, knowledge of EHS regulations, proficiency with digital LCA/PLM tools, advanced quantitative analysis skills and strong client communication abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Product Design, Environmental Science or related field; graduate degree preferred.
- 8+ years professional experience, including 5+ years in product sustainability and 5+ years in project management.
- Hands‑on experience with material selection, product architecture, energy efficiency, and circularity strategies.
- Working knowledge of EHS requirements and product regulations, including PFAS and chemical compliance.
- Proficiency with digital sustainability tools (LCA software, PLM systems) and advanced quantitative analysis (Excel, PowerBI/Tableau/Alteryx preferred).
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and senior executives.
- Strong client management, proposal development, and account growth capabilities.
- Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, global, virtual consulting environment.
