The Human Factors Engineer (HFE) Technical Leader will drive the implementation and management of human‑centric engineering processes for nuclear power plants, ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory standards while enhancing safety and performance.
In this role, you will lead the creation of maintenance, inspection, and testing procedures, oversee task and environment design based on human capabilities, and work to prevent and mitigate human error across existing and next‑generation reactors.
- Provide leadership and technical planning for Human Factors Engineering projects.
- Develop and communicate work plans and project schedules with managers.
- Ensure engineering compliance with procedures, standards, and regulatory criteria.
- Establish and leverage best practices within the HFE team.
- Report status of engineering and project priorities to stakeholders and management.
- Meet customer commitments and drive continuous improvement.
- Apply specialized HFE knowledge to develop human‑centric products and strategies.
- Design and execute system and plant functional requirement analyses, task analyses, and validation testing.
- Represent HFE concerns with internal and external customers, suppliers, regulators, and partners.
- Deliver on‑time, high‑quality engineering documentation meeting contract and regulatory requirements.
- Use high‑level judgment to analyze problems, develop solutions, and make decisions on complex tasks.
- Participate as a valued member or leader of cross‑functional teams with aggressive schedules.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors, Industrial Engineering or a related field, a minimum of ten years of nuclear industry experience, and a proven track record in maintenance, inspection and test planning; advanced degrees and a Professional Engineer license are highly desirable.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly in both oral and written forms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors, Industrial Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
- Minimum ten years of nuclear industry experience, including maintenance, inspection and test planning.
- Desired: M.S. or Ph.D. in Human Factors or related field.
- Desired: Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license in the U.S. or Canada.
- Experience with nuclear plant emergency procedures, operator training guidelines, and regulatory implementations.
- Experience as a licensed/certified reactor operator is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in computer‑based procedure writing and validation.
- Experience with outage planning, execution, and support.
- Knowledge of NRC and INPO Operator Training Guidelines and NRC Regulatory Guide 0711.
- Strong oral and written communication and technical writing skills.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada or United States required.
- Compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws (10 CFR Part 810) for access to controlled information.
- Background investigation and, where applicable, drug screening.

Compensation ranges from $113,200 to $188,800 USD or $170,000 to $220,000 CAD, with a discretionary annual bonus; candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States or Canada and comply with U.S. export‑control regulations.
