The Tug/Fork Truck Operator reports to the Janitorial Supervisor in the Operations department and is a non-exempt position. The role primarily involves safely operating forklifts and tuggers to move and separate recyclable materials such as scrap metal, wood, car parts, plastic, and cardboard. Additional duties include baling plastic and cardboard, loading trucks with wood, tires, and plastic, performing trailer inspections, and picking up items throughout the plant.
Key responsibilities include wearing required personal protective equipment, following all safety protocols, completing pre-use equipment checklists, and transporting various containers, barrels, gaylords, and tire bands to their proper locations. The operator must also separate metal scrap, wood pallets, and gondolas, deliver non-hazardous materials to designated destinations, inspect trailers before loading, and report any damage. Other duties are performed as assigned.
The work environment exposes the employee to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high or precarious locations, fumes, toxic chemicals, and loud noise. Employees regularly stand, walk, climb, stoop, and must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds while maintaining safety standards.
Qualifications include a high school education or equivalent, with up to one month of related experience acceptable. Candidates must be able to read and interpret safety rules and manuals, write routine reports, and communicate effectively with groups. They should also apply common-sense reasoning to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions and solve problems involving concrete variables.
The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Employees are expected to be punctual and adhere to the designated shift.
