SQL Database Developer II

Description

The SQL Database Developer II reports to the Development Lead within the Information Technology department. This full-time, exempt position (Grade 12) works 37.5 hours per week and is responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft SQL-based relational databases and the suite of MSBA applications.

The role involves creating and maintaining databases that collect and analyze data from MSBA’s custom internal and client-facing web applications. The developer ensures data availability, handles security, backup, recovery, tuning, automation, and disaster-recovery planning, and participates in the full development lifecycle to meet business objectives.

• Design, develop, test, and implement changes and enhancements to current and developing SQL databases as required
• Align database architecture with MSBA business processes and workflows
• Support business and client users through back-end database problem solving and troubleshooting
• Collaborate with the web development team to design and develop application business and data layers
• Write and maintain comprehensive documentation, including dependencies, inventory, troubleshooting, and daily operations
• Maintain and optimize database, data source, and query server performance, including migration of changes
• Design and implement new tables for data storage and performance monitoring
• Create appropriate indexes for new tables and analyze existing indexes for improvement
• Code high-complexity stored procedures to meet business requirements
• Implement and maintain SSRS reports with high data and visual quality
• Oversee database performance issues and guide system design optimizations
• Implement physical data model and data access layer
• Deliver work products that meet specifications, are defect-free, and perform excellently
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with co‑workers and project teams
• Support development and ongoing maintenance of MSBA applications
• Stay current with database development best practices
• Support the operational strategies and priorities of the MSBA
• Follow proper application, operations, standards, policies, and procedures to ensure database integrity and consistency
• Plan, test, and implement database software upgrade cycles
• Architect, design, and implement complex databases

Requirements

• Hold a four-year degree in a technical discipline and 7+ years of relevant SQL database development experience
• Strong Microsoft Windows, SQL Server 2017+ and T‑SQL programming skills
• Minimum 5 years of experience in an object‑oriented environment with ASP.Net/Core, VB .Net, C# and Visual Studio 2017+
• Experience with version control systems such as Azure DevOps, Git, or TFS
• Highly experienced in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
• Experience in database design, development, and administration
• Experience with web‑enabled enterprise applications, protocols, and standards
• Practical database administration experience
• Experience in code migration, database change management, and data management throughout the development lifecycle

Benefits

The position offers a salary range of $94,893‑$105,569 per year. The job description is general and may evolve; duties may be assigned or changed at management’s discretion.
