Principal Scientist - Power Electronics

Lead power electronics R&D, drive tech, supervise design, testing, and project proposals.
Lead research and R&D projects with multi-disciplinary teams
Supervise the design of electronic circuits and printed circuit boards
Assessing new technologies for a variety of applications (power supplies, grid connected converters, UPS, EV chargers, motor drives, and more)
Coordinate and engage in relationship with key suppliers
Supervise the generation and testing of simulation models and hardware demonstrators
Represent ABB in professional conferences, industry consortia, and other events
Supervise the development of firmware for low- and high-level functions of power converters
Write invention disclosures and provide technical inputs for patent filings
Developing technical requirements and creating new designs
Coordinate the generation of project proposals for third party funding
Supervise the analysis of test results and generation of documentation
Contribute to strategic planning activities
Supervise the prototyping of test assemblies, running experiments, and recording of test data
Supervise and contribute to the preparing internal and external technical reports, presentations, and publications
Scouting new technologies, generating project proposals, and getting buy-in from sponsors and potential receivers

Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in the field of Power Electronics with a minimum of 5 years of experience, or a master’s degree in electrical engineering - Power Electronics with a minimum of 10 years of experience required.
Experience with writing proposals and securing third party funding for research projects
Demonstrated skills in effective communication, presentation of results, and networking
Experience with using lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, probes, meters, power supplies, and another basic lab equipment
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, work in international teams, and lead teams and manage projects
Experience with PCB design
Ability to travel - up to 15% travel.
Experience with writing firmware code for DSPs, MCUs, and FPGAs (C, C++, Verilog)
Experience with designing and prototyping of electrical circuits, working with PCB manufacturers and machine shops for manufacturing of prototypes
