Advanced Composite Blade Technician (Tech III)

Description

The Wind Turbine Traveling Composite Technician (Composite Repair) role focuses on inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing composite components of wind turbine generators, including blades and nacelles. Technicians travel 100 % of the time, performing tasks such as sanding, cleaning, cutting, and lay‑up of fiberglass, carbon fiber, and resin while adhering to strict health, safety, and environmental standards.

• Inspect and document internal/external composite damage on wind turbine components.
• Perform structural and coating repairs on blades, nacelles, and other composites.
• Modify and lay up fiberglass, carbon fiber, and resin materials.
• Collaborate with site leadership to meet daily contractual repair obligations.
• Execute Lock Out Tag Out procedures to ensure safety.
• Read engineering drawings and lamination schedules for repair work.
• Coordinate with engineering support for non‑standard repairs.
• Work in indoor/outdoor settings under adverse weather conditions.

Requirements

• Hold or obtain GWO certification through Pearce training.
• Minimum 3 years experience with composite materials.
• Demonstrated technical and team leadership abilities.
• Experience supervising composite blade damage assessments.
• Skilled in replacing lightning‑damage tips and multi‑shell blade tips.
• Proficient in internal/external adhesive bonding and edge crack repairs.
• Knowledge of composite repair chemical mix ratios.
• Ability to read electrical schematics.
• GWO (BTT, BST) certification preferred; GE LOTO preferred.
• Able to climb turbines up to 300 ft and maintain OSHA‑compliant weight range.
• Capable of lifting/moving equipment over 50 lb.

Compensation is transparent, with a base pay range of $30–$45 USD and signing bonuses up to $6,500 for qualified candidates.
