Nuclear Safety Analysis Manager

Description

The Safety Manager, reporting to the Engineering Director, will create and lead a world‑class safety analysis organization for the IMSR design. Responsibilities include recruiting and mentoring safety engineers, overseeing deterministic and probabilistic analyses, preparing licensing documentation, and representing the company in regulatory meetings.

• Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of safety analysis engineers and specialists.
• Set team priorities, allocate resources, and oversee workload across multiple projects.
• Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.
• Establish and maintain safety analysis standards, procedures, and best practices.
• Manage departmental budget and resource planning.
• Lead deterministic and probabilistic safety analyses, including DBAs and BDBAs.
• Perform thermal‑hydraulic and neutronics transient and accident simulations.
• Evaluate plant response to postulated initiating events and safety system performance.
• Prepare licensing documents such as PSAR, FSAR, PDSA, and DSA in compliance with NRC, CNSC, and DOE requirements.
• Lead regulatory review processes and represent the company in meetings with licensing authorities.
• Develop long‑term safety analysis strategy aligned with deployment and licensing goals.
• Create and validate computer models using industry‑standard codes and benchmark against experimental data.
• Produce detailed technical reports, visualizations, and presentations for senior leadership and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with physics, thermal‑hydraulics, systems engineering, and design teams to integrate safety analyses.
• Ensure compliance with nuclear quality assurance standards (CSA N286.7, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA‑1, DOE O 414.1D).

Requirements

• Direct dose consequence, radiological release, and sensitivity/uncertainty analyses.
• Hold an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering; PE designation preferred.
• Possess at least 8 years of nuclear safety analysis experience and 3 years of technical leadership.
• Demonstrate proficiency with thermal‑hydraulic codes (Flownex, RELAP5) and neutronics codes (MCNP, SCALE, Serpent).
• Experience with probabilistic risk assessment, MATLAB/Python, and data visualization tools.
