Project Specialist I (BAS)

Description

The Project Specialist role manages on‑site technical operations, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency of fieldwork. Responsibilities include supervising field technicians, coordinating resources, troubleshooting technical issues, and meeting project deadlines and specifications.

• Level II: Consistently achieve all objectives; mentor and supervise Level I staff.
• Provide support for ongoing service engineering and existing building systems.
• Develop controls/special systems databases, graphics, and programming per design specifications.
• Debug installation issues during static and dynamic start‑up and commissioning.
• Perform accurate start‑up and commissioning, including point‑to‑point checkout.
• Produce start‑up documentation such as daily logs and commissioning records.
• Create timely software backups for projects and development.
• Complete timesheets, service work orders, and required paperwork accurately.
• Design controls/special systems projects to meet scope and budget.
• Assist in preparing as‑built drawings and O&M manuals.
• Interpret project documents to select economical and functional equipment.
• Ensure project documents are accessible to all personnel to maximize productivity.
• Align customer expectations with Climatec’s capabilities and provide feedback.
• Coordinate with Material Coordinator for cash flow and material efficiency.
• Invoice projects accurately and engage in collections to minimize aging.
• Work with subcontractors or internal teams to maximize installation productivity.
• Assist with monthly WIP re‑forecast.
• Recommend technical solutions to sales and operations; support estimating phase.
• Identify and pursue change‑order opportunities with sales.
• Support Climatec and contractors in solving building operating issues beyond controls.
• Communicate with internal staff to ensure accurate labor estimates and productivity.
• Provide leadership and input for estimation, design, installation, start‑up, commissioning, and training.
• Liaise with external engineers, owners, and contractors for timely engineering.
• Lift and carry ladders, drawings, computers, material; lift up to 75 lb.
• Stand, walk, kneel, stoop, crawl and climb stairs/ladders on construction sites.
• Maintain satisfactory driving record per company policy.

Requirements

• Senior: Highly experienced; lead complex projects and provide technical mentorship.
• High school diploma or two‑year technical degree in HVAC/Electronics (or equivalent experience).
• 3‑5 years experience configuring and debugging computer/network problems.
• 3‑5 years experience programming, configuring, and debugging HVAC/DDC controller software (e.g., Tridium/Niagara).
• Ability to work with electronic test equipment such as volt meters, oscilloscopes, etc.
• Skill in troubleshooting electrical/electronic circuitry and reading schematics.
• Understanding of AC power circuitry and strong mechanical aptitude.
• Thorough knowledge of commercial HVAC operations.
• 5+ years in building automation controls or related HVAC/electrical fields.
• 3+ years with Distech, Alerton, or Tridium control systems.
• 2+ years leading teams or projects.
• 2+ years on large‑scale commercial automation projects (data centers, hospitals, universities).
• Deep understanding of facility HVAC operations.
• Experience with Fault Detection and Diagnostics platforms (e.g., SkySpark).
• Proven ability to debug installation issues during static and dynamic start‑up.
• Experience supporting installation personnel and contractors on site.
• Experience creating start‑up documentation (logs, commissioning records).
• Relevant certifications (OSHA, PMP, N4, etc.).
