As a Component Design Engineer, you will be part of the Global Mechanical Systems Capability function. You will create engineering solutions that satisfy functional and physical requirements symptomatic of Product System and Sub-System level environments. Crucially, the engineered solutions must exhibit robustness for manufacturing capability.
Working within ET&S (Engineering, Technology and Safety), you will be responsible for the on-time delivery and quality of component design definition artefacts for mechanical components and complex electromechanical assemblies i.e. documents, 3D models, 2D drawing definitions including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) that meets requirements. You will participate within an IPT described by Product Lifecycle System (PLS) and operate in accordance with applicable Rolls-Royce Management System (RRMS) policies and processes.
- Plan, manage and execute external designs via orders placed at design service providers or suppliers with design and production authorisation for complete devices (Design only / Design and Make Package) leading to approval of the designs and all documents.
- Create and use automated and integrated tool sets. When repeat design is anticipated, create automated workflows to enable the design of the component utilising house style, standard features, and standard assessments to define the optimum design as part of automated MBD, manufacture and measurement definitions.
- Execute sub-system integration process including the appropriate use of Systems Engineering and Robust Design tools to ensure that the technical attributes of the Sub-system design meet the agreed requirements.
- Deliver design solutions for mechanical component(s), and complex electromechanical assemblies in consideration of safety, manufacturing capability, product physical and functional robustness. Design solutions also should address Unit Cost, Lifecycle Cost, Weight, Maintainability, Repair.
- Quality Assurance through checking of design documents, models, drawings in accordance with RRMS technical requirements and proactive Zero Defects approached.

We welcome applications from people with a refugee background.
- Appreciation of gas turbine operation and System/Component Design concepts are advantageous.
- Bachelor's degree or Master's in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience.
- An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters.
- Strong CAD capability in Siemens NX or equivalent, with experience creating complex geometry. Prior experience with Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM) of metallic components, including an understanding of material behaviour and process constraints would be a distinct advantage.
- Strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and have an awareness of cross-discipline engineering concepts which include manufacturing engineering, electronics, thermodynamics, thermal and mechanical analysis, cost engineering and product definition.
- Familiarity with Teamcenter or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- General overall knowledge of Product Design Lifecycle and preference with FMEA and APQP knowledge.
