The Vocational Instructor delivers instructional services in vocational and occupational subjects—including business, computers/technology, carpentry, and plumbing—to help inmates and students acquire specified subject knowledge and trade skills.
The instructor prepares course objectives that follow curriculum standards and contract requirements, plans and documents study programs tailored to individual student abilities, and provides instruction using handouts, texts, audiovisual aids, and other materials. Student performance is evaluated, progress reports are issued, and additional instruction is offered as needed.
Qualifications include a High School diploma or GED, at least five years of recent full‑time experience in the trade or career‑readiness skills, current trade certification with eligibility for provisional teaching licensure per Tennessee Department of Education, the ability to give clear vocational instructions, proficiency in Microsoft Office, a valid driver’s license, and a minimum age of 18.
