This position offers you the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the detailed electrical design and project management of high voltage substation projects. As a Substation Electrical Engineer, you will take an active role in project conceptualization, work planning, and project execution. You will work on challenging assignments that include investigating, trouble‑shooting, and solving a wide variety of electrical engineering issues.
As an Electrical Engineer, you will prepare reports that present technical and project information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats. Develop your career via peer‑learning through sharing of knowledge with other experienced engineers by way of S&L’s systems of process and associated “Communities of Practice.” In addition, you may have the opportunity to travel to client sites as needed.
The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program and at least five years of experience designing medium‑voltage power systems. Candidates must be able to prioritize work, manage multiple projects within budget and schedule constraints, track project schedules and expenditures, and prepare status reports for clients. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, experience reviewing design drawings, and proficiency with MS Office and AutoCAD are also required.
Preferred qualifications include three or more years designing substations 138 kV and above, ability to perform grounding, shielding, and battery‑charger sizing calculations, and experience with physical layout, protection, and controls. Candidates should be able to collaborate with designers to develop single‑line, relaying, metering, DC schematic, plan, section, and grounding diagrams, and be familiar with ANSI/IEEE/NEMA standards, including the National Electrical Safety Code (ANSI‑C2). A professional engineering (PE) license is also valued.
Sargent & Lundy offers award‑winning benefits that include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, life and accident insurance, disability coverage, an employee assistance program, back‑up daycare, flexible spending and health savings accounts, 401(k) retirement plans, and a pre‑tax commuter account. Additional perks comprise tuition assistance, merit scholarships, employee discount and charitable giving programs, licensure and referral bonuses, generous paid personal/sick time, vacation, holidays, parental and bereavement leave, and flexible work arrangements.
The salary range for this position is $82,380 to $125,860, with total compensation including a base salary plus the comprehensive benefits described above and eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus.
