The role involves collecting routine and non‑routine water and wastewater samples in field and laboratory settings, maintaining accurate Chain of Custody documentation, operating and calibrating instruments, overseeing daily wastewater treatment operations, troubleshooting pumps and meters, and inspecting treatment systems and distribution lines.
The operator will handle samples safely, perform minor mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance, support compliance with NJDEP and EPA regulations, keep detailed operational logs and regulatory reports, collaborate with field staff, lab personnel and project managers, and follow all safety procedures including proper PPE use.
- Collect routine and non‑routine water and wastewater samples in field and laboratory.
- Complete and maintain accurate Chain of Custody documentation for all samples.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain field and lab instruments.
- Oversee daily wastewater treatment operations and adjust processes as needed.
- Troubleshoot operational issues with pumps, meters, and sampling systems.
- Conduct regular inspections of treatment systems, distribution lines, and facilities.
- Safely handle, store, and transport samples in compliance with regulations.
- Perform minor mechanical repairs and routine preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Support compliance with state and federal environmental regulations (NJDEP, EPA).
- Maintain detailed operational logs, maintenance records, and regulatory reports.
- Collaborate with field staff, lab personnel, and project managers to resolve challenges.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and hazard reporting.
- Stay current with industry trends and technology.
- Maintain licensing credentials.

Candidates must have 5+ years of experience in water treatment or related fields, a high school diploma, an N2 Wastewater Operator License, and preferably a college degree and OSHA 40‑hour certification. They need strong knowledge of sampling, lab procedures, chain‑of‑custody, mechanical troubleshooting, record‑keeping, MS Office, and excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Additional requirements include maintaining licensing credentials, willingness to work in confined spaces and travel to NJ sites, passing a pre‑employment physical (criminal/drug/alcohol/MVR), and being available to start early spring 2026.
- 5+ years experience in water treatment, wastewater field operations, or environmental labs.
- High School diploma and N2 Wastewater Operator License (college degree and OSHA 40‑hour a plus).
- Excellent knowledge of water sampling, lab procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Highly familiar with Chain of Custody protocols.
- Mechanically inclined with troubleshooting and maintenance skills.
- Detail‑oriented with strong recordkeeping and data entry abilities; proficient in MS Office and digital reporting tools.
- Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work in confined spaces and travel to NJ client sites as needed.
- Must pass pre‑employment physical, including criminal, drug, alcohol, and MVR checks.
- Available to start early spring of 2026.
