The Radio Hardware Chief Engineer will join the Tools & Outdoor team in a hybrid work model, leading engineering teams to assign tasks, set short‑ and long‑term goals, and ensure projects stay within time and budget constraints. This role maintains three‑year product roadmaps and prepares leadership reports for radio hardware initiatives.
As the technical authority for radio hardware and device communication standards, the Chief Engineer will design, implement, verify, validate, and qualify embedded, modular, and integrated radio solutions. Responsibilities include architecting wireless technology integration for power tools, translating performance requirements into technical specifications, and defining scalable, flexible wireless protocols such as BLE, LoRA, and emerging networks.
Collaboration is essential, requiring close work with Global Supply Chain, Product Chiefs, Digital Product Managers, and application teams to guarantee end‑to‑end success of connected products. The leader will also oversee EE module and interface integration, drive value, DTV, and warranty improvement initiatives, and foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate brings at least 12 years of radio hardware development experience, expert knowledge of BLE, LoRA, mesh, and emerging public networks, and a proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and shape technical vision across projects. Preferred qualifications include a background in systems engineering, functional safety, a master’s‑level business degree, and experience in automotive, aerospace, medical‑device, or robotics industries.
Compensation includes a base salary range of $134,300 to $268,600 (Maryland) plus potential sign‑on payment, along with a comprehensive benefits package covering medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k), Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and discounts on Stanley Black & Decker tools and partner programs.
