The Senior Programme Manager will support programme advisory and delivery commissions throughout the full programme lifecycle, including definition, delivery model, organisational design, readiness, maturity assessments, management and PMO implementation. You will lead multi‑disciplinary teams on high‑profile regional programmes in sectors such as water, transport, energy and infrastructure, while shaping strategy, building local relationships and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
- Develop and deliver regional programmes aligned with sector and client priorities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a newly established programme management function and diverse team, promoting technical and professional development
- Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement within the new regional function/team
- Support the team in achieving strategic goals related to capability, growth and commercial targets
- Lead or support delivery of complex programme management advisory or delivery commissions involving multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders
- Ensure commissions meet quality standards and commercial expectations
- Apply robust risk identification, evaluation and mitigation to all commissions
- Develop strong relationships with clients and cross‑functional team members to support successful delivery
- Identify and act on business development opportunities with existing and new clients, including cross‑selling
- Lead and support proposal development through the entire bid process
- Engage, develop and support direct reports throughout their career journeys
- Share knowledge and best practice, promoting the team internally, externally, with clients and industry bodies

In response to strong client demand and a growing infrastructure pipeline, AECOM’s programme management advisory and delivery teams are expanding across all grades. We are hiring an experienced Senior Programme Manager to shape, develop, initiate and deliver client investment and business‑change programmes, either independently or alongside a Director. The role is based in a newly established regional team in the South West of England, delivering transformative infrastructure and engineering projects that combine international best practice with local expertise.
- Demonstrate leadership in implementing AECOM health, safety and environment requirements
- Experience in public and private sector infrastructure (aviation, energy, rail, water) plus useful exposure to defence, government, highways, health, decarbonisation
- Proven complex, multi‑disciplinary programme and PMO management experience with a delivery track record
- Key skills: leadership, strategy development, relationship management, complex problem‑solving, insight
- Management consulting background with senior‑level client engagement
- Account management experience, seeking new opportunities and line‑management in a consultancy
- Strong industry network and ability to work across service lines and cross‑sell
- Commercial experience with a record of winning and retaining new clients
- Programme management experience in engineering/construction, preferably in South‑West England and Wales
- Degree in project/programme management, construction or engineering; chartership (ChPP) or APM accreditation (or willingness)
- Managing Successful Programmes accreditation (or equivalent) preferred
- Proficiency with business information tools preferred
