The Project Engineer applies engineering techniques to design, specify, construct, and start‑up new or improved production processes, equipment, buildings, and support systems. The role recommends efficient, cost‑effective, safe, high‑quality equipment and processes, assesses existing assets, and troubleshoots and repairs equipment while training personnel. It is an individual‑contributor position with a high degree of autonomy.
Capital projects make up about 40 % of the role and involve developing a capital plan, defining scope, cost, and schedule, preparing justifications, designing layouts, and selecting equipment with vendors. Another 40 % focuses on project management, including maintaining timelines, controlling scope and cost changes, ensuring regulatory compliance, coordinating installations, supporting start‑up, and handling financial documentation. The remaining 20 % provides ongoing operational support such as creating work instructions, training operators, establishing maintenance programs, and driving process‑improvement initiatives that boost OEE.
Candidates need a bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, chemical, or civil preferred) and at least five years of process‑manufacturing experience. Required skills include project planning, advanced analytical problem‑solving, equipment design and start‑up, strong communication, and proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Project. The role also requires 25‑50 % travel and physical capabilities such as lifting 25‑65 lb, climbing, standing, and bending as outlined.
