The Groundman position is an entry-level role in the construction and maintenance of the nation's Power Grid. You will assist your team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems.
As a Groundman you will support your team by securing the safety of yourself and others, assisting fellow line‑workers to meet project objectives, readily joining storm restoration efforts, operating vehicles and equipment professionally, and continuing training to improve technical and leadership skills.
Work is performed outdoors and may expose team members to fumes, airborne particles, noise, vibration, mechanical parts, and extreme weather conditions.
Core functions include safely performing new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de‑energized overhead lines, inspecting PPE, stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, assisting with transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches, and switchgear, replacing fuses, clearing faulted circuits, maintaining vehicles and tools, and applying basic rigging, knot tying, voltage identification, and rescue techniques.
The role demands regular standing, walking, climbing various structures, lifting or moving up to 50 lb, and using vision abilities such as close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
General expectations are the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days, communicate effectively, travel long distances on short notice, work extended periods onsite, lift over 50 lb, and be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
