The Employee Relations role acts as a trusted advisor for a range of issues—including performance, disciplinary, grievance, absence, and flexible working—supporting both the HR Business Partner (HRBP) team and line managers. It provides commercially focused advice, quantifies risks, conducts thorough investigations, attends formal hearings, and prepares precise correspondence such as scripts, emails, and outcome letters. The role also supports complex long‑term absence cases, offers objective feedback for learning, liaises with the Employee Relations Manager on senior matters, and helps implement change programmes with minimal disruption.
Case Management involves overseeing cases from start to finish, guiding HR colleagues and managers throughout the process. It ensures the case management system is up to date, timely, and thorough, while monitoring data to identify trends and generate reports. The role collaborates with the Employee Relations Manager, the General Counsel’s Office, and external employment lawyers on complex cases and assists with employment tribunal claims.
In Policy & Project Work, the employee will assist in reviewing and updating firm‑wide policies to maintain legal compliance and align with the firm’s values and purpose. When required, they will work with relevant teams to implement new policies and drive related initiatives, as well as support broader HR project work relevant to the role.
Documentation responsibilities include working with the HRBP team and Projects HR Manager to keep ER policies, processes, precedents, and template letters current and centrally accessible. The role also provides assistance with interpreting contract terms of employment and updates guides and toolkits for the HRBP team on ER matters.
Learning & Development duties involve interpreting changing UK employment legislation and delivering updates to the HR team. The employee will coach, train, and upskill the wider HR team and line managers, identify relevant e‑learning opportunities, and create or refresh content for appropriate audiences and platforms.
Relevant experience required includes at least three years in an ER advisory capacity, covering employment tribunals, complex case work, and disability or mental health cases. Candidates need in‑depth knowledge of employment law, regulations, and HR policies, preferably with experience in professional services firms with complex matrix structures, and mediation experience is desirable.
