Senior Mechanical Estimator-Reston
Turner Construction Company
A leading construction firm delivering projects across diverse sectors including commercial, residential, and industrial.
Prepare detailed mechanical, plumbing, fire protection estimates for large projects.
Serve as liaison with Engineers, Design consultants, Trade partners, other Turner staff, and Owner’s representatives to resolve Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection issues related to project preconstruction efforts.
Participate in development and implementation of MEP training.
Lead mechanical estimating responsibility for complex projects such as Mission Critical, Market Segment, and Government jobs with MEP package contract value of $25M+.
Participate in authoring scope requisitions for bidding/procurement of Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems; coordinate with fellow estimators to eliminate scope gaps and overlaps.
Communicate estimate and scopes of work to stakeholders (e.g., Turner staff, architects, engineers, and owners).
Develop working relationships with local Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection trade partners to maintain active list of qualified bidders for projects.
Participate in decision making process with Operations and Procurement to determine MEP trade partners to utilize in project pursuits.
Prepare quantity take-offs, analysis, estimates, and studies for Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection items incorporated in scope from conceptual design through completed construction documents. Preliminary design work may be required to complete conceptual estimates.
Lead integration of MEP Operations staff during MEP PreCon process and serve as resource to guide and consult with staff through to construction. Review general conditions and general requirements items to properly address in estimate including, but not limited to, items such as temporary heating/cooling, including estimating of natural gas consumption during construction.
Leverage relationships with vendors, trade partners, and project team members to elevate client service
Perform constructability analysis of project documents. Communicate design and constructability issues to project team and stakeholders per the project contract.
Provide first costs analysis and participate in life cycle analysis with Design team.
Analyze existing site conditions and contract documents (e.g., plans, specifications) to determine required scope not already indicated.
Contribute subject matter expertise of Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection system for project pursuits.
Participate in estimate reviews with Design team and client.
Participate in project hand-off to Operations to ensure proper transfer of knowledge from Preconstruction to operations.
Coordinate equipment pricing with SourceBlue for Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection estimates.
Conduct value analysis to define cost efficient alternatives to proposed Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems, materials, and equipment.
Lead company-wide or regional MEP strategic initiatives and/or special projects.
Prepare estimates and proposals for contract types (e.g., lump sum, GMP, Cost Plus).
Establish working relationships with local material suppliers and equipment vendors to solicit accurate and current pricing of plumbing fixtures, HVAC equipment, piping and sheet metal material, and miscellaneous material pricing.
Evaluate of trade partner proposals relative to their scope of work and determine scope coverage and manage identified scope gap risks.
Assist project staff to evaluate large change orders.
Formulate advanced scenarios to address known and unknown scope relative to comprehensive cost analysis for Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems, based on contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule
