

Provides water and sewer services to Boston, ensuring clean and safe water for residents and businesses.
Investigate complaints and reported problems to water and sewer infrastructure and make necessary repairs. Excavate job sites and operate pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, and gas hand tools required for assigned duties. Assist mechanics, craftspersons, or semi‑skilled maintenance personnel, complete forms and reports, and maintain security of parts, materials, and tools. Instruct and direct other Commission personnel, reconstruct streets and sidewalks, clean and inspect sewers, storm drains, and catch basins, and perform shut‑offs and let‑ons of water controls. Additional duties may include reading and sealing meter devices, clearing obstructed water sources, removing snow, and testifying on legal matters.
Employees must be Boston residents on their date of hire and for the duration of their employment, subject to BWSC policies and collective bargaining agreements.
High School diploma or GED is required, along with a valid Massachusetts driver's license. Successful completion of the BWSC Apprentice Program is required unless otherwise agreed, and candidates may need to complete Waste Water Collection and Water Distribution courses to obtain certification. Applicants must know all safety procedures, demonstrate proper use of required safety equipment, and be willing to work any emergency as directed by the Commission.
